Other Committee · Meeting of August 5, 2026

Charlton Water and Sewer Commission tables sewer rate hike as deficit projections mount. Consultant Matt Abraham's analysis showed the sewer enterprise fund heading toward a $326,000 deficit in 2027 and $800,000 by 2029, with a modeled $2 million cumulative shortfall through 2033 even under 5 percent annual increases. A commissioner floated a roughly 15 percent rate increase but declined to make a motion, citing uncertainty over costs from a replacement operator once Veolia's contract expires October 31.

Veolia operator Shane reported crews pulled nearly two feet of nip bottles from the Route 20 pump station, calling it "probably the worst pump station he's seen in his career." The commission voted 5-0 to reclassify an open foreman position as a water and sewer superintendent and voted to waive tie-in fees for the privately funded Griffin Road water main extension, expected complete by the end of October.
