Charlton Child and Recreation Commission approves irrigation repairs, elects new chair

CHARLTON — June 8, 2026 — Charlton's Child and Recreation Commission reorganized, elected new leadership, and advanced a slate of field improvement measures at its June 8 meeting. The commission unanimously elected Ross as chair and Patsy Redlock as vice chair in a reorganization delayed from May, then approved up to $2,500 for Economy Irrigation of Auburn to repair long-dormant irrigation systems at Allen Field and the Little League field, and up to $500 for two replacement pickleball nets. Community volleyball and pickleball organizer Sherry Zanka appeared before the commission to request that the school system's annual certificate of insurance be forwarded ahead of the program's fall restart, a motion the commission passed unanimously. The body also approved three June portable toilet invoices totaling $660 and authorized executive assistant Laureen to sign invoice vouchers following monthly commission approval. In a discussion of Maynard Field, members agreed to pursue a Planning Board site plan amendment — required under a 2006 original approval — to explore adding lights to the youth football field, and to encourage the football and cheer organization to fundraise for repairs to the field's deteriorating announcer's tower.
