Charlton Select Board Closes ATM Warrant, Awards $266,850 Grounds Contract to Local Firm

CHARLTON — March 10, 2026 — Charlton Select Board unanimously closed its Annual Town Meeting warrant and awarded a $266,850 grounds maintenance contract at its March 10 meeting. The three-member quorum — Chairman Karen Spiewak, Vice Chairman Stephen Koronis, and Clerk Basia Zurawski — approved a three-year contract for recreational property mowing and snow removal to BCB Lawn Services of Charlton after DPW Superintendent Nick Piehl reviewed three bids received February 26. The board also closed a 20-article ATM warrant for the May town meeting, including zoning amendments targeting solar energy siting, reduced-frontage lot setbacks, and special permit criteria, plus a citizens' petition to revoke the stretch energy code added as Article 20. The evening's only substantive debate arose during a National Grid pole hearing on Ramshorn Road, where former land surveyor and adjacent property owner Jason Julian argued the proposed pole location sits in the direct path of vehicles that routinely lose control at what he called "one of the most dangerous curves in town," prompting the board to continue the hearing to March 24 while directing Golas to consult with DPW and National Grid.
