Board approves $500K Senior Center design, tables camera vote

Charlton Select Board approved $500,000 for Senior Community Center design phase.

Select Board · Meeting of September 22, 2026

Charlton Select Board approved $500,000 for Senior Community Center design phase. The board voted unanimously to place the appropriation on the October 19 Special Town Meeting warrant for engineering and design of the center and Police Department parking expansion at Masonic Home Road, expected to serve over 1,100 seniors currently with growth projections to 5,000 within five years. The board also tabled discussion of Flock automated license plate readers pending a Police Department educational presentation, deferring any decision to the October 19 Town Meeting vote on a non-binding citizen petition signed by over 160 residents requesting discontinuation of the surveillance system.

Additional approvals included amendments to animal control bylaws, acceptance of Ashley Road and Amber Road as public ways, special licenses for The Overlook Fall Festival and a Knights of Columbus fundraiser, and a $2,500 grant from the Opioid Settlement Fund to Adam's Parachute nonprofit.
