Board Finds Amazon Site in Traffic Violation
Charlton's Planning Board found Amazon's Sturbridge Road facility in violation of its 2021 traffic permit and continued a related expansion hearing.
Planning Board · Meeting of October 7, 2026
Charlton's Planning Board found Amazon's Sturbridge Road facility in violation of its 2021 traffic permit and continued a related expansion hearing. Town Planner Dillon Maxfield said the facility exceeded permitted traffic volumes, saw a "material increase" in crashes, and missed required monitoring filings; member Bill Fontaine had flagged the same issues in a same-day memo. The board directed staff to notify the zoning enforcement officer and continued Amazon's flex-delivery modification hearing to October 21, when town counsel KP Law is expected to weigh in.
The board also voted unanimously to recommend a data center zoning moratorium through 2028 to Town Meeting, adopted the town's five-year Housing Production Plan with CMRPC, approved a reduced-frontage lot for Robert Hatch on Oxbow Road, and continued Apple Trailer Realty's 10-acre vehicle storage permit hearing, also to October 21, after an abutter raised concerns about unpermitted land clearing.
