CHARLTON — The Charlton Water-Sewer Commission unanimously approved two staffing positions while discussing sewer rate increases to address a projected deficit. Members Robert Coleman, Thomas Coleman, Emmanuel Asenso, Erik Grotton, and Paul Gagner voted 5-0 to hire an Administrative Coordinator and to elevate the Foreman position to Superintendent. Member Grotton outlined a projected $300,000 deficit starting next year and recommended a roughly 15 percent rate increase to avoid deficit spending.

The rate proposal is scheduled for the commission's September agenda. The commission also unanimously waived tie-in fees for the Griffen Road water main extension, with installation planned for no later than the end of October.
