Select Board reorganization bid fails; solar permit fee cut to $2,500

Select Board · Meeting of February 10, 2026

Charlton Select Board rejects reorganization motion after clash over board conduct. Vice-Chairman David Singer moved to remove Chairman Karen Spiewak, alleging repeated attempts to silence him through shouting, gaveling, and threats of removal; Spiewak defended her 30-year record and cited community fatigue with divisiveness. The reorganization motion lost 2-3, with Spiewak, Member Koronis, and Clerk Zurawski opposed.

In routine business, the board unanimously cut a solar project permit fee from $34,200 to $2,500, reappointed Lisa Redmond as Registrar of Voters through April 2029, and approved four essay questions for the 2026 scholarship cycle, with applications due April 30.
