Select Board converts Town Clerk position to appointed office

Select Board · Meeting of April 28, 2026

CHARLTON — Select Board unanimously appoints Karen LaCroix to Town Clerk position through June 30, 2029, completing the town's conversion of the role from elected to appointed status following voter approval at the October 2025 Special Town Meeting. Town Administrator Andrew M. Golas noted the February 2025 citizen petition special election passed 46 to 14 for the conversion, and October bylaw amendments passed 196 to 61 and 204 to 53 respectively to remove elected references and authorize board appointment authority.

The board also unanimously approved two utility pole installations for National Grid and Verizon; an Old Worcester Road pole approval was conditioned on National Grid meeting with abutters Dave and Donna Peters. The board and Finance Committee jointly finalized the Annual Town Meeting warrant with unanimous support for Articles 2 through 14, covering municipal budgets and bylaw amendments.
